SP-1200 Book Party 2.0 "Where is Pete Rock?"

Back again...Books, Beats and Brew... What more could you ask for? The critically acclaimed SP-1200: The Art and The Science book (declared the Official SP-book by E-MU Systems, Inc.) release party 2.0 took place in NYC on Sunday, December 4th at The Delancey in NYC. Cats came through with 3.5 inch floppy disks to display their skills + take part in the Isaac Hayes, Walk On By beat battle.

Living in Brooklyn can be real dope sometimes. Here is a little video I did to document an fresh event that was hosted by Kic Drum Products . They released a coffee table book about the history and culture of the E-Mu SP1200 which is a midi based sampler that came out in the late 80's. This event showcased some of the worlds best Sp1200 beatmakers and it lasted all day into the night. I didnt have enough footage to cover all the producers so here is just a little glimpse of the day through my lens. Enjoy!

Album Update!

The album is finally mixed and masterd thanks to my homeys Symmetry and L-rox of www.redsecta.com. Also a big shotout to the very talented photographer and artist, Corey Grayhorse who executed some fantastic photos for the cover. Things are moving forward fast with this project and it is expected to be released in the early Spring. It's gonna be available on cd, and digital at first, and then later Pro-Town Records hopes to put it out on a short run of vinyl. Besides that, I am busy with school and making some pretty dope art. Here is the 12" vinyl compilation record release party presented by Pro Town Records, Milk and Cookies, and Beat Box Studio. This event is jam packed with festivities, complimentary beverages, music, food, art, dancing, fun!! The art gallery will be open to showcase 15 RI artists who designed their own unique record cover for the compilation.They will be available for purchase as well as t-shirts and other merchandise.  My brother, his friend, and I went to the Shepard Fairey exhibit today, which is located in Boston @ the beautifully, newly developed, Institute of Contemporary Art. It was real deal inspiring, especially considering I had his Andre stickers in my bedroom in 1990, way back before the world was screaming his or President Obamas name. His "Obey" campaign is twenty years in the making, and just a few years in the taking.  He says, Do not Obey  the advertisement and propaganda industry, but  defy it with  opinion and distrust....

Then, on our way out of the exhibit, all were buying his T-shirts, posters, bells, and whistles.

God bless the child that can write his own rhymes.

Chocolate Skittles

At first glimpse at the new chocolate flavored skittles, you might point your head to the floor, cross your arms over your solar plexus, then proceed to faux vomit, and make a comment like... 

"Yea. OK. Ya buggin, son." 

But no, I'm not buggin. I bought some today at the bodega while my girlfriend bought a custom designed name belt-buckle that said, in bold stainless steel letters, "GHETTO". My chica is not hood and this belt buckle wasn't for her. It was for her hip-hop influenced friend who lives in Argentina. Apparently you can't cop name belt buckles in Buenos Aires.

Anyway, these new skittles are yumpin. That's yummy and jumpin' amalgamated.

Last night I was outside of a bar having a conversation with a stranger about the dangerous additives in cigarettes, when another stranger from Greece whips out his pack of smokes to show us the government warning sticker. I couldn't resist taking a pic.

Van Jones is the f**kin MAN!

My homeboy Ricky Rap-Star flew in from Atlanta over this past week to take part in a convention in Boston called GreenBuild. He was there on business on behalf of the Atlanta library system who are planning to build a new green library. When he came back to RI for the weekend he put me onto Greenbuild's website on which he introduced me to Van Jones. This dude Van is a great public speaker. He hits all topics with precision on what it means to be "green" and how to bring it to your own backyard. He's funny, smart and worth the listening time. He inspired me to think about how to handcraft package my new cd with post consumer materials that I can find from somebody's unnecessary waste. Make sure to give fam a listen to. The lecture he did this past week can be found here.  

On the recommendation of my boy Cas-Uno I picked up a book called "Things Fall Apart" by African author Chinua Achebe. It tells the story of a prominent African tribesman who falls into a string of curses and is exiled from his tribe for 7 years. On return to his tribe, most everything has changed for the worse. Even in the face of superior adversity his tribal principles remain intact and unmoved. This short book is a great read. In-fact, it was the inspiration for the title of The Roots album  in 1999. Support your local library and go pick a copy up son!
